Cathy Webb
BIO:
I am a 49-year-old wife and mother from North Carolina who resides in the Atlanta, Georgia area. One of my passions is freedom of expression, so I have written and self-published six books on personal development topics for women, one on improving communication for couples, and one as a love letter to the Black men. I also provide consulting and ghostwriting services. To further express my creativity and individuality, I have begun modeling and recently walked in my first fashion show. The plan is to add acting to the repertoire soon.
Interview Series
1. If you could live out your WILDEST dream with no fear of failure, what would you be doing?
Fulfilling my wildest dream without fear or failure would have me walking (or strutting down) the runway at a televised international fashion extravaganza! The best part would be all the models would be men and women of all shapes and heights. There would be zero limitations. It would be an amazing success and become an annual event held in different exotic locales.
2. What is the most memorable, funniest, or craziest thing that has happened to you on your entertainment journey?
This question is quite simple as my entertainment journey began six months ago. After my first casting call, the host stated they would send a text later that day to those selected to walk in the fashion show. The first fitting would be that same day, so the models were due back at 5pm. When 4:45 came and went, I was a bit bummed. Then I saw the blue indicator light. I checked and had received the text message!! I grabbed my shoes and headed back to the facility wearing a million-dollar Colgate smile!
3. What is the best advice you have received regarding your entertainment journey? And who did it come from?
My biggest supporters have been my children, Andrea (22) and Malcolm (20). I have been a stay-at-home wife/mom since 2006. I’ve ventured down several roads in that time (author, speaker, grad school, etc.). This is different as it is into an area “seasoned women” normally do not start this late in life. When I told them I was becoming a model, they said. “If it’s what you want, go for it!” Yes, it sounds basic but coming from them, it meant the world. They attended my first fashion show with their “friends” which made it extra special.
4. What has been your biggest challenge in the entertainment industry?
My biggest challenge on my entertainment journey has been locating casting calls for “more seasoned” women or those whose height lacks a few inches. As a 49-year-old woman standing 5’4”, the opportunities can be limited (but not limiting). At my earlier castings, I felt like a stage mom instead of another model. As time went on and I met more models, the feeling faded. When you are completely comfortable with who you are, new circumstances will not shake or shatter your energy or what you bring to the table.
5. What advice would you give to someone that was just starting out?
To someone just starting out, I would remind them that something caused them to open that door, so they are meant to go through it. I would let them know they are not alone, no matter how it may feel at times. Finally, I would encourage them to learn as much as possible as the industry, foster the right relationships, remain professional in all interactions, and stay true to their values and morals.
6. If your social media had the power to influence positive change in the world, what would you use it for?
I would use my social media’s power to inspire and encourage those who are “more seasoned” to not allow their years on the ground to stop them from going after what they desire. Starting my new journey in an industry dominated by teens and millennials may be seen as a roadblock but I see it as a challenge to myself. Limitations may be set by others and that’s okay as long as I do not set limitations on myself. I would encourage them to push through whatever aims to hold them back and support them when they do.
